Optimal counterterrorism and the recruitment effect of large terrorist attacks: A simple dynamic model
Thomas Jensen has published an article in Journal of Theoretical Politics on optimal counterterrorism. The article studies a simple model of the dynamic interaction between a decentralized terrorist organization and counterterrorism authorities when large terrorist attacks leads to a temporary increase in terrorist recruitment. It is shown that an increase in the level of counterterrorism can lead to higher risk of a terrorist attack. Furthermore it is analyzed how the recruitment effect of large attacks should make the authorities change their dynamic strategy and what the consequences of these changes are.
The article originates from a chapter in Thomas Jensen’s PhD thesis. The abstract can be found here: se http://jtp.sagepub.com/content/23/1/69.abstract
