Niels Johannesen in American Economic Journal: Economic Policy
The paper “Taxing Hidden Wealth: The Consequences of U.S. Enforcement Initiatives on Evasive Foreign Accounts” (joint with Patrick Langetieg, Daniel Reck, Max Risch and Joel Slemrod), now accepted for publication in American Economic Journal: Economic Policy, uses administrative microdata from the United States to examine the impact of enforcement policies on taxpayers’ reporting of offshore accounts and income. The paper finds that the enforcement policies caused approximately 50,000 individuals to disclose offshore accounts with a combined value of about $100 billion.
