Professor Finn Tarp invited to inequality workshop at UN headquarters
On 6 May 2019, UNU-WIDER and the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UN DESA) organized a workshop on inequality.
The workshop brought together several outstanding international scholars and the UN community, with the aim of contributing to the in-depth review of SDG10 during the High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development 'Empowering people and ensuring inclusiveness and equality', being held in July 2019.
DERG Coordinator, Professor Finn Tarp, contributed at the event in the session 'Inequality in the developing giants: policy implications – part I'. His presentation discussed lessons learned in measuring and understanding trends in inequality within the UNU-WIDER work programme Transformation, Inclusion, and Sustainability, particularly from the Inequality in the Giants project.
During his term as Director of UNU-WIDER (2009-18), Professor Tarp made inequality a central work theme for the institute. His intiatives on inequality will continue to be an integral part of UNU-WIDER's new work programme.
